1. Observe Wildlife Respectfully

  • Maintain a safe distance (at least 50 feet) to avoid disturbing natural behaviors.
  • Use binoculars or zoom lenses to enjoy close-up views without causing stress or harm to the animal.

2. Do Not Feed Wildlife

  • Feeding disrupts natural diets and can create dependence on human food.
  • Human-provided food and trash can attract animals, leading to dangerous encounters or property damage. Secure garbage and food remains.
  • Instead, support wildlife by planting native vegetation that provides natural food sources.

3. Drive with Care

  • Reduce speed in areas where wildlife crossings are common.
  • Baby animals are on the move during spring semester. Be extra cautious on campus roads.

4. Be Prepared for Emergencies

  • Keep important phone numbers handy.
  • Report injured or distressed animals to appropriate rescue organizations immediately.
  • Stanislaus Wildlife Rescue: (209) 883-9414
  • On Campus Biologist: (209)-201-8349
  • Student Lead: (310)-991-5362

5. Practice Responsible Pet Ownership

  • Keep pets on leash and prevent them from roaming freely in wildlife areas.
  • Protect both your pets and wildlife by using enclosed yards, cat patios or supervised playtime outdoors.
